👉 Swipe right for the full image! Our Wild Woods Category Winner is 'Beech for the Sky' by Graham Niven. This wonderful image captures a phenomenon known as 'canopy shyness', in which the crowns of mature trees do not touch each other. @nivenphotography told us '...the trees form a canopy that has channel-like gaps which, when photographed from below, appear to create an intricate network of channels between the respective canopies. 'Besides the wondrous vision you are afforded, it’s also just a great excuse to lie down in the forest.' Thanks to our competition supporters: @canonuk @rspb and @countrysidejobs .

👉 Swipe right for the full image! 'Day Walker' by Simon Withyman was awarded Winner of our Urban Wildlife Category. @eatsleepfoxrepeat told us 'This vixen had taken up residence in an electricity substation after being pushed out of her parental territory. The fenced-off area provided her with a quiet place to rest away from the busy city. She would often walk along this wall, and I was able to capture this photo through the gaps in the metal fencing, while making the most of some striking lens flare.' Congratulations on a wonderfully creative capture! 🦊 Thanks to our competition supporters: @canonuk @rspb and @countrysidejobs .

Congratulations to Daniel Valverde Fernandez, whose image ‘The Tightrope Walker’ takes home the title of Habitat Category Winner! 🎉 Daniel told us 'In this image, you can see a red fox walking along a tree branch at a considerable height from the ground, demonstrating that these animals are true tightrope walkers of nature. The fox is perfectly framed between the branches and its silhouette is subtly highlighted by the sun’s rays falling on it.' Well done @danyvet_wildnature ! BWPA 2024 is now open for entries. For our British Seasons category, the judges are looking for a stunning portfolio of four images that portray British wildlife at its very best. Warren Price's portfolio of kingfishers was awarded Category Winner. His portfolio beautifully captures the essence of the species across each of the seasons. Warren tells us: 'Ever since I saw a kingfisher by complete chance while walking our dog along a small village stream that meandered through farmland, I have been captivated by its beauty.' Thanks to our competition supporters: @canonuk @rspb and @countrysidejobs .

👉 Swipe right for the full image! Capturing the essence, beauty, and diversity of the botanical world is what our Botanical Britain category is all about. Using 160 focus-stacked photographs, Jason McCombe created this highly detailed image of tiny slime moulds, which was selected as the winning image of this category 🏆 @Jasonmc_nature told us that these slime moulds are 'so small that if you are not looking for them you will simply overlook them. Each head on these fruiting bodies is approximately 1mm wide, and the depth of field when shooting at such high magnification is so shallow that focus stacking is required.' Congratulations on an incredible image Jason! Thanks to our category supporters @countrysidejobs

Congratulations to Robin Dodd and his photo 'Raven Above Arran', which was awarded Category Winner in the Black & White category. Robin told us 'This is a shot from the top of Goatfell on the Isle of Arran, which is the highest mountain on the island. It was a lovely hike to the top on a bright summer afternoon after arriving by ferry a few hours before. When we reached the summit, it was deserted except for two ravens who seemed to dominate the peak. 'We sat for some time, observing these birds gliding over Arran just as gracefully as any bird of prey. It’s a harsh yet beautiful world they inhabit. This image is in black and white and consists of two shots, focus stacked.' 📷: @fastfoxphoto BWPA 2025 is now open for entry. 'Starling at Night' takes the winning spot in our Animal Portraits category. This category calls for images that capture the character or spirit of the subject imaginatively; judges expect to get a sense of the animal’s “personality” from the photograph, and Mark Williams' image does just that! This image of a common starling creatively captures its beauty and character and won our judges over. Well done Mark! Thanks to our competition supporters: @canonuk @rspb and @countrysidejobs .

'Three Frogs in Amplexus' by Ian Mason wins our Animal Behaviour category as part of BWPA 2024! Ian told us 'Every March, our garden ponds suddenly come alive with hundreds of frogs that seem to appear overnight from nowhere. I have been photographing them for many years, and I am always fascinated and amused by their antics. 'Here, there has been a competition to mate with a female. For a lot of the time there is a frenzy of activity, but sometimes they freeze long enough to get a shot. The image is taken with the lens at water level, and the background is a distant larch tree.' Congratulations on this fantastic capture Ian. Thanks to our competition supporters: @canonuk @rspb and @countrysidejobs .

🏆 Congratulations to our RSPB Young British Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2024 🎉 'Running on Water' by Max Wood. @max_wildlifephoto This image also won the RSPB 15-17 Youth Category! 👉 Swipe right for full image. Max told us 'I woke up at 4:45am with the hope of capturing backlit waterfowl images at Frensham Pond in Surrey. I lay down at the edge of the pond and waited for the birds to become active. As the morning progressed, rays of sunlight began to shine through trees along the edge of the pond, creating spotlights in the morning mist. This created a beautiful atmosphere, which I aimed to capture in my images. This coot was fleeing a fight, running across the water to take flight through the mist and rays of light.' Well done Max on this beautiful and atmospheric image! Thanks to our competition supporters: @canonuk @rspb and @countrysidejobs .

🎉 Congratulations to our Overall Winner. 🏆 The British Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2024 is Ryan Stalker with his image 'Ocean Drifter'. Ryan grew up on Portland along the beautiful Dorset coastline. At a young age he became fascinated with the sea and the creatures that live within it, wanting to see and learn more about them. He first became interested in underwater photography to show people the amazing variety of life around our coastline. This has since led to him being awarded in UK and international competitions and has driven a passion to develop further as an underwater photographer and capture amazing moments beneath or above the waves. Well done @ryanstalker9 on this truly thought-provoking award-winning image! The image is also the winer of our Coast & Marine category. Thanks to our competition supporters: @canonuk @rspb and @countrysidejobs .
