Supermodel @ambervalletta tries to fold her pro-environmental ethos into every corner of her life, including her home. Thus, she, her fiancé, the fashion hairdresser Teddy Charles (@teddycharles35 ), and her friend the Los Angeles–based interior designer Ross Cassidy (@mrrosscassidy ), have worked to turn a new hilltop house in Los Angeles into a model of sustainability. Once she found her most recent home—a partially built six-bedroom house, on the edge of a rural canyon—she called Cassidy, with a mandate: Create a home that is “extremely calming and feels like a sanctuary—a place where, when you come in from the world, you can exhale,” she says. “Generally, I start a room with either a light fixture or a textile,” Heidi Caillier (@heidicaillierdesign ) says of her process. “The city of Tbilisi is an eclectic mix,” says designer Tinatin Kilaberidze (@tinatinkilaberidzedesign ), explaining the architectural makeup of her hometown, where she recently returned to design a historic town house for a local entrepreneur. “There are influences from East and West.” She had lived in New York for several years but recently moved back to Tbilisi and was setting down roots in a 19th-century town house in a popular neighborhood teeming with art galleries and chic cafés—a jewel within the historically layered tapestry that is the city. At first, designer Oliver Haslegrave wasn’t sure about the project brief. His clients, a Brooklyn family living in a three-level townhouse in Williamsburg, had two specific requests: First, they love to entertain so they wanted two kitchens (easy enough), and second, they asked that the upstairs feel like a French farmhouse and that the downstairs take inspiration from prewar New York hotels. Reframing the design challenge as an opportunity, Haslegrave, whose interiors firm @home.studios had focused solely on hospitality projects until they tackled their first residential project in 2020, started to think of ways to connect the disparate spaces. “[@kirstendunst ] has worked with some of the world’s best costume and set designers, so she has an amazing eye. She gets inspired by beautiful things. She can see the poetry in them. Just like a classic pair of Levi’s, this East Hampton compound will simply get better with time. After a day at the pool or beach, kids will hang out in the farmhouse with wet feet and bathing suits.
