Hand management is a mechanic you'll find in most board games, so for these 5 to stand out from the crowd is not insignificant!
Which hand management ganes stand out for you?
Unfortunately this will be the last top 5 post I make, at least for a while. Life has got in the way a bit lately and, although it might not seem like it, I put a fair amount of time into brainstorming and creating a few of these lists each week. I really want to thank you all for the amazing feedback and engagement on these posts. You've made the added effort more than worth it!

I've had a surprising number of folks reach out lately, asking why I haven't posted for a while.
I'm still alive and still playing games (admittedly way less than usual).
It's been a very busy year with work, in a good way. I haven't had the energy or motivation to post on here, unfortunately.
I might be back at some point to rant about board games, but for now, please enjoy my occasional movie ratings. I'm on a big 1950s deep dive lately.
I appreciate everyone who's reached out!
What's the best Grand Austria Hotel score you've seen? I just managed a new personal best of 167, which is still 3 short of the 170 record that @flanagan07 set. One day.
Does the expansion add a new ceiling to the scoring potential? The more I play Grand Austria Hotel the less I think I need the expansion. It's already incredibly replayable and hasn't lost any of its shine after 26 plays.
Having said that, of course I'll eventually get the expansion because I have no self-control. 🤷♂️
It being impossible to find is probably the only thing stopping me. Hey @lookout_games , let me give you money.

Today was our first game of Twilight Imperium IV since August last year. It felt like much longer though. I'm always dying to get this beast on the table. At least Twilight Inscription has been there to tide me over!
This was our first time using the hyperlanes to improve the 5-player map. They work perfectly, although I did occasionally forget about the new adjacency rules and misjudged or overlooked some possible moves.
I finally got to try out Argent Flight! I'm obsessed with how strong their Destroyers and PDS can be when fully upgraded. Once I'd locked in my path to victory there was nothing anyone could do to stop the win, despite The Barony of Letnev sending two War Suns at my home system.
Still my favourite game and it's not close.

Look at how lovely Evergreen is!
Evergreen from @horribleguild is the spiritual successor to Photosynthesis, and improves upon it in just about every way in my opinion.
Each player will build up their own planet with trees, bushes and lakes in order to make their planet as lush as possible. To do this you'll draft cards that give you a biome to activate and an ability to upgrade.
Activating biomes lets you plant new saplings and grow your trees either from saplings to small trees, or small trees to large trees.
Abilities let you do a wide range of things. Additional growing and planting, placing bushes or lakes or getting points. The more you choose the same ability the stronger it becomes.
Each round there will be a card left over from the draft that will be moved to the scoring section. This will either improve or worsen the end game scoring for its biome. This gives you a way to hurt your opponents based on which biomes they've built up.
So there are three important things to consider with every card you draft, which leads to some tough decisions.
Really enjoying Evergreen so far. It ditches the mean, more direct player interaction of Photosynthesis and replaces it with a subtler interaction via the manipulation of end game scoring.
Also, look how lovely the production is! Dual-layer boards and adorable wooden components make Evergreen look superb on the table!
I'm not entirely sure how much staying power it will have, but it's a game I'm excited to play for now!

My favourite 2-player game of 2022 was definitely Caper: Europe.
This is a card drafting and area control game all about putting together teams of thieves, kitting them out with gear, and pulling off daring heists.
You and your opponent will fight over three different locations with a tug-of-war mechanic that determines which of you will successfully perform the heist and gain the rewards.
One of the best features of the game is the tight closed economy. Coins are used to buy the gear you'll need to pull off your heists, but there are only 10 coins in the game that you and your opponent will both want. If you hoard too many then your opponent will start taking them from you!
This is also a stunning production from @keymastergames at a surprisingly low cost. To me this is a no-brainer for any collection.

Meadow is a lovely card drafting game with amazing artwork that I have always felt needed something more, but I didn't know what that was.
Turns out it was exactly what the Downstream expansion has added!
Meadow: Downstream adds a big double-sided river board that attaches to the campfire board from the base game.
Here you'll find an area to claim new cards and a river you'll move down to claim unique bonuses and earn points!
This expansion adds just the right amount of new content for me. The new card drafting area reduces the luck factor a tad, the river adds new scoring opportunities that the base game was sorely lacking, and new bonus actions on the rivers effectively shake up the flow of the game.
It also adds to the game's already stunning table presence with its gorgeously illustrated river board.
If you're a fan of Meadow then this is a no-brainer.
