And there you have it, The All Ways Black Cypher 2023. So thankful to have community and talent around me that can help bring such a vision to life. That understands how closely connected good lit and good music are. That, like me, thrive off of both and take pride in using one to uplift the other. This years cypher is especially exciting because we’ve teamed up with @littlefreelibrary . For each share of the cypher during 2/2/23 – 3/31/23, All Ways Black/PRH will donate one book to Little Free Library - up to 2,000 books. I genuinely hope you all enjoy. -Cree Directed & Produced by Cody LaPlant (@codylaplantfilms ) Cinematographer: Kyle Kadow (@kylekadow ) 1st AC: Steven Cleavland (@steven.cleavland ) Gaffer: Spencer Ortega (@spencer.ortega ) Key Grip: David Naida (@davidanaida ) Grip: Xavier Whittaker (@XW1gram ) PA/BTS: Christie Suchomel (@clsuchomel ) Beat Produced by Kiran Vedula (@kiran.vedula ) Live Sound Engineer & Post Production Mixing by Jesse Carl (@jesseccreates ) Edited by Cody LaPlant (@codylaplantfilms ) HMUA: Rich King (@richkingmakeup ) Location: Milwaukee Public Library (@milwaukeepubliclibrary ) Location Manager: Eileen Force Cahill Talent: Marli Amor (@Melanatedmama ) Genesis Renji (@genesisrenji ) Klassik (@iamklassik ) Cree Myles (@creemyles )

This year on All Ways Black we are going to continue doing what we do. Celebrating Black writers and the readers who love them. Centering Black joy, love, and excellence.  Pushing the envelope, accidentally ripping it, throwing it away and then using a different container that can hold the swag. Amplifying. Agitating. Celebrating. So, what are you doing? Roll with us, it’s going to be a good time.   Shoutout to the following for making this cypher come to life: 🎥: @codylaplantfilms 🎶: @kiran.vedula   🎛(recording and mixing): @jessecarlmusic @timuthyv 🎤: @genesisrenji 🎤: @iamklassik 🎤: @melanatedmama 🎤: @creemyles

My entry point to basketball was, unsurprisingly, Michael Jordan. When the Bulls came to play the Bucks my dad bought nosebleeds for me, him and my sister because “history.” I was really young and just remember cameras flashing incessantly at the end of the game, surrounding Jordan to the point where you couldn’t even see him. I don’t love basketball but I do love Michael Jordan (as an athlete) and I love when someone obsessively loves something because it usually makes me more deeply appreciate the something. Abdurraqib does that here. The care and closeness that he applies is par for the course but still inspiring and occasionally “put down the book and stare at the wall” worthy. Happy Book birthday to “There’s Always This Year”. Also in the forward Abdurraqib shares that in 1985 Michael Jordan still had his hair and he catapulted hisself from the free-throw line during a dunk competition. As you can see me and my Aria 3000s don’t stand a chance. Professional/collegiate Basketball players are so talented and we just be watching on our couches with our pseudo masters in sports analysis. lol raggedy 😅.

Who else watched Shirley this weekend?! If you’re looking for more inspiration, more Black women being up against every odd and doing it anyway, you’ve come to the right place. From writers, to politicians, to environmentalist Black women continue to push - no matter what - for a better world. Jump into this round up!

We know campus novel season is usually in the fall but the way this weathers been acting we feel like it’s time to revisit some faves! Can’t recommend these three enough. Also worth noting Real Life is arguably more heartbreaking than messy but the dinner scene deserves an award for the amount of emotional chaos that took place.

If you need a sign this Monday to do something brave here is one from Alice, June, Ralph, James and Audre. We all know Alice did it anyway; back pain and all 🙌🏾
