N O W W H A T ? • you read the books, you did the classes, you gave birth, you came home. Now what? If there is one thing I’ve learned about parenthood is that no one can prepare you. I often was told, “you’re a midwife, you’ll sail through it! You know what you’re doing!” - how wrong they were. Keep going Mama, you’ll make mistakes, you’ll cry, you might scream silently into a scrunched up muslin. I’m not telling you to cherish every moment - but in a blink of an eye, these difficult days will be a distant memory and you’ll be onto new challenges and good days too. Happy Monday - you’ve got this! 📸 @angeladonnithorne . . . #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #maternalmentalhealth #perinatalmentalhealth #perinatalpositivity #pregnancy #birth #pnd #anxiety #anxietyawareness #anxietyinpregnancy #depressionawareness #depressioninpregnancy #antenatal #prenatal #postnatal #postpartum #newmum #mumsmentalhealth #dadsmentalhealth #maternalocd #birthfear #birthtrauma
As a trained nursery nurse with 18 years of experience I too had this attitude from other people. “You’ve got so much practice, you will breeze it”…. Oh yeah?, really? Wish I knew about postnatal Doula’s then. Funnily enough it’s part of what has moulded my choice to be one now. 😊
