One thing I learnt later in my career as a coach/PT, is that believing in yourself is crucial! I’m not just talking about believing in your ability to coach, but your belief in your ability to do anything in life. In the coach-athlete/PT-client relationship you have to be able to motivate the athlete/client to develop their own self-belief relating to a new task - the training you set before them. But how are you going to do that if you don’t yourself possess the self-belief that you can tackle new tasks laid before you? You can’t teach what you don’t know. In the same way, we have to be cautious of what limiting beliefs we place on ourselves, because they in turn will be impressed upon those we coach. Are we overly limiting ourselves as coaches/PTs out of fear of failure and unintentionally developing that trait in our athletes/clients? Coaches/PTs are leaders! You’re not going to believe a leader who doesn’t themselves believe in what they are saying, why would it be different in a training setting? My biggest advice to anyone starting on the Coach/PT career path is yes, being knowledgeable is fantastic, but it won’t make you the best. But if you combine it with self belief and learn how to motivate others to believe in themselves - you’re gonna go far 👏🏼
I know that feeling very well being a martial arts instructor you definitely have to believe in yourself
