Daisy had been having problems all day. She could barely walk and refused to eat or drink. Tuesday night, my mom took her to the emergency vet where they would keep her overnight. Mom said all her vitals looked good. She was still weak, but her tail was wagging a little. That made me happy. Wednesday, 4:30 in the morning. My usual insomnia has kept me up so I decide to make some ramen noodles. I hear Rob come down the stairs. I look at him, confused that he is awake. -Daisy's dying. -No... -One of her organs is failing...they don't know which one. Me and your mom are going to drive there now to say goodbye. A few minutes of silence while we wait for mom to come downstairs. I think how scared Daisy must be, all alone. -Give her a hug and kiss for me. -Do you want to come with us? -...I'll stay here with Rocco I'm afraid to see Daisy like that. Mom comes downstairs with tears in her eyes, looking at me. She can barely speak. -Daisy's not going to make it. -...I know. As soon as they leave, I start crying. I hug Rocco and tell him it will be ok. I wish I could explain to him why his big sister won't be by his side anymore. They come back at 7. No words are spoken. They have Daisy's collar with them. I look outside. The sun is rising. I smile knowing that Daisy will have some light to guide her on her way to doggie heaven. ---------- Update: I talked with my mom's boyfriend today to get a little more info. They sat with Daisy for an hour, petting her and talking to her. Despite the fact that she was dying, she was happy to see them. Her tail was wagging a lot and she even tried to get up and walk around. Her final moments were happy and peaceful. 💓
