REFLECTION: Looking back at this, I think I was onto something here. This painting was designed to appeal to social media. It’s not a gallery style portrait that has the “sitter” small in the frame, with lots of air around her profile. It is close in, like the selfie itself, making it jump out as you scroll through your feed. At this point, I know who my audience is, and I know how to get likes, and I want more. There’s nothing wrong with that, if it also feeds what makes sense for my work. “Like hunting” can be a dangerous game, because it can lead you away from your path just like money can. But when it all clicks together, it’s a good thing.
