Psalm 119:71 - It was good for me to afflicted so that I might learn your decrees. NIV
Our world has taught us to avoid pain and misery at all costs. We’re made to think that if it makes us uncomfortable then it’s just wrong. We take discomfort as a sign that something is off and we need to hurry up and get through it as quick as we can. But that’s all hogwash.
The truth is that if we’re never pushed then we never learn. If we can always lean on ourselves then we’ll always lean on ourselves. But faith requires more than that. We need to learn to lean on God, and thankfully He’s willing to lead us through whatever it takes to help us learn that lesson.
It is good for us to be afflicted because that’s where we learn best just how good and faithful God really is. We can only learn to see and trust in His provision when it’s all we have left to rely on. After all, we only grow to appreciate His light when we’ve come to know just how miserable the dark can really be.
