Maryam Mirzakhani was born on 12 May. She was an
Iranian mathematician whose research topics included
complex mathematics subjects. She became the
first and the only woman to ever win the Fields Medal -
the most pretigious award in mathematics. She passed
away on 14 July after a harsh battle with cancer.
Her death shocked a wide majority of people. Firouz
Naderi, one of the former directors in NASA, describes
her death as the death of a massive star. They only form once a century. They're the biggest
and shiniest stars in the universe, however, they
have a short lifespan. Once they run out of energy,
they become supernovas and their remains and light
will endure for hundreds and thousands of years.
This statement might be the best description for Maryam
Mirzakhani's life and her impact on the world of
mathematics and on the people in general.
